Known egg donation for LGBT couples
For many same-sex female couples, our London fertility clinic offers known egg donation, which allows both partners to share the notion of motherhood.
Known egg donation for female LGBT couples involves taking eggs from one partner and having the embryo grow in the other partner, so that one partner is the biological mother and the other is the birth mother. This is one method of family building for female couples using a sperm donor.
Both partners will attend for consultation at our IVF clinic London in order to undergo relevant investigations and infection screenings. The partner donating the eggs will then use fertility drugs to stimulate the development of multiple mature eggs, whereas the recipient will take oestrogen and progesterone to prepare the uterus for receiving the created embryos derived through egg donation. The donor sperms will be used to fertilise the eggs. The eggs will be fertilised using either an IVF or ICSI technique and the created embryo(s) will then be transferred two to five days later.
